Pentax Scopes and Binoculars
QUESTIONS
What the numbers mean:
- Binoculars are identified by their magnification power and the diameter of the objective lens. For instance, our first listing, the 8x21 UCF mini, means that these binoculars have 8 power magnification or will make an object appear 8 times larger than it would with the naked eye, and that the front or objective lens used is a 21mm lens. The larger the objective lens, the brighter the viewing image.
How to focus binoculars:
- As you hold the binoculars comfortably in front of your eyes, spread the eyepieces apart or move them closer together until the object you are veiwing appears as one complete circular image. Close your right eye and look at a distant object through the left lens. Focus by turning the center focusing ring. Next, cover the left objective lens and look at the same object using your right eye. Focus the right lens by turning the ring on the right eyepiece. Once both sides are focused for your eyes, with both eyes open use the center focusing knob to adjust the focus for looking at objects at different distances.
I wear eyeglasses, and binoculars are really difficult to use. What can I do?
- A bit of experimentation is in order. First, try focusing the binoculars as discussed above with your glasses in place. Next, note the soft rubber eye cups on each of the eye pieces. These are designed to be rolled out of the way. Don't try to remove them, just roll the soft part back onto the body of the eyepiece. Now hold the binoculars to your eyeglasses and try focusing again. The last option is to roll the eyepieces out again and try the focusing routine without your glasses. One of the three methods should work for you.
What are "coated Optics"?
- Special magnesium fluoride multi-coating on all of our optical surfaces greatly increases the percentage of light that actually reaches the eye, providing a brighter, higher contrast view.
Please explain "field of view".
- Field of view is expressed in degrees or in width of feet as the area you see at 1,000 yards. The larger the angle, the wider the area you will be able to see.
What is "Eye Relief"?
- This is the maximum distance at which you can place your eyes from the binoculars and still see the entire field of view.
